Sprinkler Pipe Breaks at Nonprofit

Sprinkler Pipe Breaks at Nonprofit

On February 12, 2018 a sprinkler pipe break at a sizable Hartford nonprofit agency damaged about 75,000 square feet of the agency. The agency’s ability to serve clients and keep its employees safe were affected. The agency chose SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield to do all the restoration work. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield began by performing emergency water extraction of several inches of water. We then completely dried the area with industrial dryers and tested for mold and mildew. Next, we removed and replaced all damaged building materials. During the work we discovered and removed hazardous asbestos and applied an anti-microbial spray. The nonprofit commented on the fast response, professional service, and SERVPRO's ability to safely remove hazardous material.

Fire & Water Damage at Country Club

Fire & Water Damage at Country Club

When we arrived in December 2017 at this Massachusetts country club, the banquet hall looked like this. The country club had had a fire, suffered water damage, and then had a second fire due to another company's faulty heating equipment. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield began by covering the roof, boarding up windows, and securing the building. We developed a work flow to keep the country club in operation and to keep everyone safe while we restored about 65,000 square feet. We also had to remove and store furniture while we worked. In the course of the work we discovered and removed asbestos. The country club owners appreciated the fast response, knowledgeable team, quality work, and quick restoration of the property.

Fire & Ice

Fire & Ice

Firefighters do an amazing job saving lives and stopping fires. But sometimes putting out a fire can cause another type of damage. Here is a home in Springfield, Massachusetts. To stop a February 2018 fire and the fire and smoke damage, firefighters had to use water. Lots of water. In the cold Massachusetts winter, with temperatures well below freezing, you can get ice and icicle damage like this. But SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield knew exactly how to handle the situation. In a matter of days the ice and water were removed and the home restored to a safe, livable, and comfortable condition. Read more about how we deal with water and ice damage in the 15+ blog posts on water damage on this website.

Cleaning Up Sewer Backup at Downtown Landmark

Cleaning Up Sewer Backup at Downtown Landmark

This landmark building in downtown Hartford, Connecticut had a sewer backup that affected 156,000 square feet on seven floors. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield completed the clean up, restoring the building to the pre-sewage backup condition in 35 days including construction. In cases like this—a biohazard or sewage contamination in your business or commercial property—we ask customers to focus on safety. Exposure to biological and chemical contaminants can pose serious health consequences. If your business suffers any type of contamination keep everyone out of affected areas. Call emergency service personnel if the situation is life-threatening. And turn off your building’s HVAC system if there’s sewage damage.

Partial Roof Collapse in Windsor, CT

Partial Roof Collapse in Windsor, CT

Fire damage at a Windsor, Connecticut home caused a partial roof collapse. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield worked with a construction company to board up the roof, windows, and doors. We also secured a tarp the roof to protect the home from further damage. And SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield worked with the insurance adjuster on the next steps to restoring the home. This job reminded us of something important: whether you live in an older home or a brand new home--you need to inspect your roof (regardless of the roof’s age) at least a few times a year and make any necessary repairs. One advantage of inspecting your roof frequently is that you may spot small repairs you can make yourself at little cost. Finding and fixing the small issues prevents them from growing into bigger and much more costly issues.

SERVPRO 2014 Director's Gold Award

SERVPRO 2014 Director's Gold Award

At our older, smaller office you could walk in and see a large cabinet to your right. That cabinet displayed SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield’s plaques, awards, and certificates like the one shown here. Since 2014 we have continued to grow, win awards, and serve more customers. But today that cabinet couldn’t hold all the items our employees’ work have earned. We owe thanks to our outstanding employees and our customers. When new customers experience our services the first time they tend to become long-term customers. We thank all our customers for putting your faith and trust in SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield. The greatest award we receive doesn’t fit in any display cabinet. The greatest reward is the thank you and appreciation from another satisfied customer.

House Fire Safety

House Fire Safety

When you’ve been on the scene of hundreds of house fires like SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield has, you get to thinking about fire safety. So many of the homes we’ve restored after fire and smoke damage could have avoid damage if people had been a bit more careful. We like to remind people of basic fire safety guidelines. Talk with your kids about the dangers of playing with matches, lighters, and flammable liquids. Don’t leave your kitchen when you’re cooking. Know and post your local fire department’s emergency phone number. Keep gasoline, kerosene, paint thinners, and other flammable liquids in appropriate containers and away from other flammable materials. These guidelines sound easy and simple but you’d be surprised how many people don’t follow them.

Water Damage Restoration

Water Damage Restoration

When we respond to water damage in Bloomfield, Enfield, Granby, or somewhere else, people are usually surprised by the science and technology required to restore their property to its best possible condition. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield uses psychrometry to fight water damage. Psychrometry is the study of air and its properties (temperature, humidity, vapor pressure, dew point, etc.). Whether your dishwasher’s overflowed or flood waters have invaded or you’ve suffered other water damage, applying psychrometry can minimize the problem. It helps us control temperature and humidity levels. We also use many other tools like moisture sensors, moisture meters, and thermohygrometers to define how much moisture has been absorbed. You can't remove all the water if you don't know it's there.

Banquet Hall Fire and Water Damage

Banquet Hall Fire and Water Damage

A November 2015 fire at the Chez Josef Banquet Hall in Agawam, Massachusetts did extensive smoke damage. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield restored three ballrooms, the kitchen, and the entrance way. Because the fire department had to use fire hoses to douse the blaze, Chez Josef also had SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield to do a dry down of many rooms. Our crew removed all water and removed furniture and other items so we could bring in our professional drying equipment. We also had to eliminate wet materials that could not be restored (like drywall). A series of SERVPRO’s heavy-duty industrial fans made the drying process go more quickly.

Apartment Complex Fire and Water Cleanup

Apartment Complex Fire and Water Cleanup

On December 18, 2015 a fire at the Waterbury Apartment Complex in Waterbury, Connecticut damaged about 9,000 square feet in several apartments. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield did emergency board up to secure the affected apartments within an hour. We did emergency mitigation to dry out the structure and fire and water cleanup that evening, well ahead of schedule. Because of the fast response, quality services, and quick restoration of the apartment complex, the property owner said SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield is the only mitigation company they will use. “This was a case where we wanted to satisfy the property owner, of course, but also the many apartment residents who suffered the major portion of the damage,” said Ralph DiCristofaro, co-owner of SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield.

Water Damage Restoration in East Longmeadow, MA

Water Damage Restoration in East Longmeadow, MA

An East Longmeadow, Massachusetts family was away for three days over the 2016 New Year’s Eve holiday. When they returned home Sunday, January 3, 2016 they discovered their furnace had backed up and caused water rather than steam to travel through their heating system. Every radiator in the house leaked water across two floors and throughout the basement. This picture shows just some of the damage. The family called SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield immediately. We began emergency cleanup and restoration services within two hours. The SERVPRO team extracted water, packed up dozens of boxes of valuables, and moved the boxes to our climate controlled warehouse. We then removed damaged walls and ceilings, removed damaged carpets, installed drying and ant-microbial equipment. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield received the call because a family member had a great experience with us performing clean up and restoration after a fire.

Our New, Expanded Warehouse

Our New, Expanded Warehouse

There were many reasons for SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield to move in 2016. Thanks to our customers, our business had vastly outgrown the old headquarters and warehouse. The current warehouse is five times bigger than our old warehouse. Moving from a 10,000 square foot warehouse to the 53,000 square foot warehouse has enabled us to serve more people, have more disaster equipment on site, and expand our services. Office space is also much enlarged so we have more employees and crews to respond to cleanup and restoration needs. We’re more ready than even to respond to your natural disaster and restore your property “Like it never even happened.”

Water and Mud Damage Clean Up in Simsbury

Water and Mud Damage Clean Up in Simsbury

In July 2016 the Farmington Valley received a drenching rain. The drain at a Simsbury independent school couldn’t handle the volume so water flowed into an entrance door and onto the floors carrying a large amount of mud. More than 7,000 square feet was flooded with water and mud. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield responded within a hour of the school’s call and had a cleanup crew at the site within two hours. The clean up, restoration, and dry out took five days. The all girl boarding school was incredibly happy and has called SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield  for several other jobs since.
