In Enfield, CT, SERVPRO was called to provide fire damage services to a local hardware store that had gone up in flames after a car crashed through it.  SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield was on the scene within an hour to clean up the broken glass, and cover up the holes in the roof and shattered storefront windows. We boarded off the demolished area of the store, and took care of the soot damage and aroma from the smoke the following day. Using negative air machines and humidifiers, we were able to eliminate the moisture from space, and continued with construction work on the damaged parts of the building. We also tested for asbestos while doing the cleaning. In under 10 days, the store was back to normal. Because SERVPRO was there to act fast, minimal revenue to the store was lost, and insurance costs were prevented from skyrocketing.

Medical Center Sewage Emergency

A local dialysis center in the Bloomfield area suffered a sewage back up emergency to their 5,000 square foot facility back in August of 2018. The dialysis center contacted SERVPRO after finding out that the mitigation company could not be there immediately, and our crew was there within an hour. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield first expelled the sewage water from the space, then rid the floor and furniture of the contaminated muck that had gotten onto it. Following this, we gave the floor another round of power washing. SERVPRO also used a strong bacterial disinfectant on the floor to remove any illness-causing bacteria or viruses that the sewage water could have possibly contained. In this process we uncovered a mold problem in the building, and took care of that as well. 10 days later, SERVPRO had the job completed and the medical facility was fully operating again.

In the course of the work we discovered and removed asbestos. The country club owners appreciated the fast response, knowledgeable team, quality work, and quick restoration of the property.

Frozen House with Ice

Ice Damage After the Fire

While firefighters do an incredible job putting out fires and saving lives, sometimes their methods of extinguishing the flames cause a different kind of damage. An example of this is back in February of 2018, when a huge fire swept through a home out in Springfield, MA. To control and put a stop to the fire and smoke damage, the firefighters pumped lots and lots of water onto and throughout the house. Because it was the middle of a below-freezing Massachusetts winter, the house was at high risk of getting ice and icicle damage. Luckily, SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield knew just how to treat the situation. SERVPRO eliminated the ice and water, and restored the home back to a safe, inhabitable condition in just a few days. To learn more about how SERVPRO deals with ice and water damage, check out our 15+ blog posts on this website about water damage.

Sewer Disaster at CT Landmark

In downtown Granby, CT, a landmark building had a major sewer backup, affecting 156,000 square feet of space within the multistory building. The seven floors of the building were thoroughly cleaned and restored back to original condition by SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield in 35 days, also accounting for the time construction took place. We encourage customers to focus on safety in cases involving dangers such as biohazard or sewage contamination on commercial or business property. Serious health problems can occur due to exposure to biological and chemical contaminants. Keep everyone away from affected areas if your business suffers any kind of contamination. Make sure to shut off the HVAC system in your building if there is sewage damage, and call emergency service personnel if ever the situation is life-threatening.

Partial Roof Collapse in Windsor, CT

Partial Roof Collapse in Windsor, CT

Water damage at a Windsor, Connecticut home caused a partial roof collapse. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield worked with a construction company to board up the roof, windows, and doors. We also secured a tarp on the roof to protect the home from further damage. And SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield worked with the insurance adjuster on the next steps to restoring the home. This job reminded us of something important: whether you live in an older home or a brand new home--you need to inspect your roof (regardless of the roof’s age) at least a few times a year and make any necessary repairs. One advantage of inspecting your roof frequently is that you may spot small repairs you can make yourself at little cost. Finding and fixing the small issues prevents them from growing into bigger and much more costly issues.

We thank all our customers for putting their faith and trust in SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield. The greatest award we receive doesn’t fit in any display cabinet. Fire Safety Guidelines

If you’ve been on the scene of hundreds of fires like our experts here at SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield, fire safety stays on your mind. We’ve restored so many homes that have been dealt fire and smoke damage, that could have so easily been avoided by adhering to some basic fire safety guidelines. Go over the dangers of messing around with lighters, matches, and flammable liquids with your kids. Store your flammable materials far away from flammable liquids such as gasoline, kerosene, and paint thinners, and make sure everything is stored in the appropriate non-flammable containers. Don’t leave the kitchen unattended while you're cooking. It’s a good idea to memorize your local fire department’s emergency phone number, along with writing it down. These simple guidelines seem easy to follow, but you’d be shocked by the amount of people who don’t abide by them.

Reversing Water Damage

People living in Bloomfield, Enfield, Granby, or other nearby towns are usually surprised by the science and technology that is required to restore damaged property, when SERVPRO responds to their water damage emergencies. To fight water damage, SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield uses psychrometry, or the study of air and its properties; this includes temperature, humidity, vapor pressure, dew point, and more. Applying psychrometry can lessen the severity of water damage caused by anything from a dishwasher overflow to invading flood waters. It aids in the regulation of humidity and temperature levels. Tools like moisture meters, moisture sensors, and thermohygrometers also lend a hand in determining the amount of moisture that has been absorbed. It's impossible to expel all the water if you don’t know it’s there.

Banquet Hall Fire and Water Damage

A November 2015 fire at the Chez Josef Banquet Hall in Agawam, Massachusetts did extensive smoke damage. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield restored three ballrooms, the kitchen, and the entrance way. Because the fire department had to use fire hoses to douse the blaze, Chez Josef also had SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield to do a dry down of many rooms. Our crew removed all water and removed furniture and other items so we could bring in our professional drying equipment. We also had to eliminate wet materials that could not be restored (like drywall). A series of SERVPRO’s heavy-duty industrial fans made the drying process go more quickly.

East Longmeadow Radiator Leak

A family from East Longmeadow, MA returned home on Sunday, January 3, 2016 after being away over the New Year’s Eve holiday, to discover their furnace had backed up. As a result, water, instead of steam, traveled through their home’s heating system. All of the radiators in the house leaked water across the main floor, upper floor, and basement. Immediately, the family called SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield. Within two hours, our crews began emergency cleanup and restoration services. SERVPRO removed water, boxed up all their valuables, and transported the boxes to our climate controlled warehouse. Our team disposed of damaged materials, and set up drying and anti-microbial equipment. Flood in Simsbury School

Farmington Valley endured a drenching rain in July of 2016. A Simsbury independent school’s storm drain did not have the capacity to carry the high volume of rainwater, so water and mud flowed through an entrance door to the boarding school and onto the floors. The mud and water flooded over 7,000 square feet of space. The school called SERVPRO, and SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield responded within an hour, and had a cleanup crew on the scene in under two hours. It took a total of five days for SERVPRO to complete the cleanup, restoration, and drying. The all-girl school was very pleased with our services and has called SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield for a few other jobs since then!
